Catalytic-activity coefficient (cat.coefficient)

Abbreviation

Cat.coefficient

Definition in words

Catalytic-activity of component F divided by coefficient of component G in system 1

Note 1: Coefficient can be a kind-of-quantity that is not e.g. volume, mass.

Note 2: Component B is the quotient of catalytic-activity of component F and a kind-of-quantity of component G in system 1

Note 3: Component F (catalytic component, e.g. an enzyme) ≠ Component G

Note 4: Component F is not related to or a part of component G

Definition by equation

Systematic terms

Catalytic-activity coefficient of component B in system 1

Result type

Rational scale
  • Value sets are positive numerical values
  • Algebraic operations are allowed (a=nb; a≠nb)
Numerical values from 0-∞

Unit

mkat/mol, kU/mol, µkat/kg, etc.

Note 1: Katal, “kat”, is recommended unit for catalytic-activity kind-of-quantity. (kat=mol/s)

Note 2: Enzyme unit, “U”, is acceptable for use (e.g. U, kU) but it is recommended to use katal. (U=µmol/min)

Note 3: The denominator unit depends on the coefficient.

Special rule(s) in the NPU syntax

The catalytic component (component F) is termed according to the International Enzyme Nomenclature (see Medical and metrological vocabulary).

“Procedure” is stated in the specification to the kind-of-property in the NPU definition.

“Procedure” indicates that the measurement procedure must be stated somewhere else than the NPU code and there may be difficulties in comparing values for the same NPU code.

The coefficient must be specified in the specification to the kind-of-property in the NPU definition.

Example

2019-03-21 Examinations using catalytic-activity coefficient (catalytic-activity/amount-of-substance) may have the same type of unit (e.g. kU/mol) as for examinations using molar catalytic activity. Molar catalytic-activity is the quotient of catalytic-activity of component B and amount-of-substance of the same component.
2019-06-04 Examinations using catalytic-activity coefficient (catalytic-activity/mass) may have the same type of unit (e.g. kU/kg) as for examinations using catalytic-activity content. Catalytic-activity content is the quotient of catalytic-activity of component B and mass of system 1.
